Euthanasia is now legal in Australian state of Victoria

Terminally ill Australians can for the first time apply to end their own life, after new laws went into effect in the state of Victoria on Wednesday (June 19).

The country’s second most populous region made voluntary euthanasia legal under closely specified circumstances, a first for the country.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews – who supported the Bill after his father’s death from cancer in 2016 – said the laws were about giving patients a “dignified option at the end of their life”.

“We’ve taken a compassionate approach,” Mr Andrews told commercial broadcaster Channel Nine, adding that he hoped it would bring people the dignity of a “good death”.

Human Extinction because of climate change could start by 2050 said Breakthrough National Center for Climate Restoration

If humans don’t stop emitting green house gases into the environment the result could be a climate change doomsday. The paper was written by an independent think-tank in Australia called Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration.

“The same way we look back today and have pride in the things our grandparents did to defend democracy —  our grandchildren are going to look back and have feelings about what we did today,”

“What those feelings are,” he said, “will depend on what we decide to do.” Said The United States is not immune to any of this, said Solomon Hsiang

Can blood pressure drugs help reduce dementia risk?

Many recent studies have linked hypertension with a higher risk of dementia. For instance, a paper that appeared in the journal Neurology last year found that hypertension is tied to a higher risk of experiencing brain lesions, which are, in turn, tied to dementia.

“In view of this, our most important task is to find existing therapies that are associated with a reduction in dementia risk or at least an extension of the time to dementia onset.”- Dr. Jens Bohlken
